Suicide Prevention: Screening and Referral

In the Surgeon General’s 2012 National Strategy for Suicide Prevention: Goals and Objectives for Action she emphasized the importance of instituting “training for all health, mental health, substance abuse and human services professionals concerning suicide risk assessment and recognition, treatment, management, and aftercare interventions.”

This training will explore language and stigma, the theoretical foundation in the clinical assessment, treatment, and management of suicidal risk over time with suicidal persons. It will provide instructions in “evidenced-based” and “best practices” for risk assessment and treatment of the suicidal person and coordination of services and referral.
